Mooneyes New Years Party

Mooneyes New Years' Party held at the Irwindale Speedway is one event you need to check out; it's a bucket-list event. Upon entering the event, you will be amazed by the vast display of pre-'72 muscle cars, lowriders, hotrods, trucks, motorcycles, and Kustoms. The organizers limit the number of vehicles to 1000 due to the event's popularity.

The cars were fantastic, but the most exciting vehicle that I saw was not a car; it was a bike that quickly got my attention; it was a 1912 Pierce Arrow. They built 32 Pierce Arrow motorcycles in 1912. Unfortunately, only five known are left; this is the only running 1912 Pierce Arrow.

The one-cylinder bike is fascinating; the front spring forks are from their bicycle-building days. The gas tank is part of the frame. The throttle is on the left, as with other bikes from 1916 and earlier; that's great because you need your right hand free to pump the oil. It was a total loss oil system like other motorcycles until 1915-1916. So once you hear the knock, knock, knock, you need to reach down and pump oil into the engine. You get it rolling by peddling it, then engage the belt, and there you go.

The motorcycle could reach speeds up to 55 mph, with all you need to do while riding this one; it must be terrifying when you get to the bike's top speed. Pierce Cycle Company started building motorcycles in 1909

Mooneyes New Years Party is not only a huge car show but drag racing as well. It was great seeing some of our favorites battling it out on the drag strip, like the immaculate 1948 Anglia Gasser with a blown 396 and fittingly named Panic Attack and the '64 Plymouth drag car named Sayonara. The view of the drag strip is fantastic at Irwindale Speedway. Drag racing was open to '72 and earlier vehicles.

Mooneyes events are some of the most popular and diverse car-related events around. They get a tremendous turnout at all their events, and It's not only about the cars; it's about the culture.

The Mooneyes New Years' Party was like a huge family get-together. There is something for everyone. Of course, you get to see all these classic cars and drag racing, and you get to watch live bands that played great music all day, a pin-up contest, and isles of vendors and food trucks.

Mooneyes events are always a blast and are some of California's funnest car events. Whether it's their open house events in Santa Fe Springs, CA, or Mooneyes New Years' Party, they know how to have a good time. I'm looking forward to attending their next event.
